Madam Soo, a sprightly 83 year old resident, shared how she felt about St John’s Home’s new therapeutic garden. She enjoys being in the therapeutic garden and goes there every morning and evening.
Madam Soo explained that the new therapeutic garden is beautiful with many different pretty flowers that she enjoys looking at. She finds their fragrance refreshing too. She feels more awake after smelling their scents. She appreciated that many fruit trees have been planted. She was especially taken by the durian tree and hoped that she gets to taste its durians.
Madam Soo finds that staying active is much more convenient with the new therapeutic garden. In the past, she did not dare to walk in the garden because the ground was uneven. It was not safe for her to walk there. Now that a good, level and wide path has been created, she feels safe walking in the garden.
Madam Soo was especially happy that a grab rail has been installed along the length of the koi pond. The grab rail enables her to walk up and down the garden on her own. She can also hold onto the grab rail to do her morning exercises. In the evening, Madam Soo supports herself with the grab rail as she watches the koi swim about. She keeps a close watch on how the koi are doing. This includes tracking how many baby koi are born. She last counted 3 baby koi.
Madam Soo was pleased that machines for upper body exercise have been installed as well. Her favourite equipment is the Hand Cycler where she turns two wheels. She also uses the Dual Pull Down Challenger. She appreciates the improvements to the garden very much.
Madam Soo also goes to the roof top garden every day to enjoy the view and do some gardening. She has her own planter given by the staff. Most recently, she planted some rose cuttings. Madam Soo has successfully planted lady fingers. She feels very happy when her plants bloom and bear fruit.
