A Mother’s Day Letter to My Beloved Daughter

Being your mother is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I wouldn’t exchange it for anything else. Being your mother is a badge that I wear with much pride.

I cannot imagine what my life would be like without you. From the first day I cradled you in my arms, you have brought me endless happiness.  Every step you took and every hurdle you overcame made me so proud of being your mother.

Looking back, it seemed like only yesterday that you took your first steps, uttered your first words and read your ABCs. And now you are all grown up, with a bright future ahead of you.

Time passed so fast.

I remember the look of eagerness on your face when we got up early in the morning for our first holiday. I would get up at 5am to prepare sandwiches and snacks for our journey. Our little car is not much to look at and the air-conditioner barely worked - but that did not matter. What mattered was the excitement and joy of hitting the road and all the fun games we played to keep us occupied along the way. Everywhere we went seemed so beautiful because we were together.

Unlike many mothers, I need not worry much about your studies. Somehow I knew you would do well. Indeed, I felt a little guilty that I did not have to put in that much effort to get you to study.

Seeing you progress from primary school to college is so reassuring and I have always believed that you could do anything that you set your mind to do.

I told myself that I would not cry at your graduation but I couldn’t control myself. Seeing you graduate is like crossing another major milestone in my life. It marks a new chapter in your life.

You are confident and adventurous, but more importantly, you are a kind and sensitive person, and always showed compassion towards those who have less. I hope you never lose that tender heart to help the less fortunate.

On this Mother’s Day, I want you to know that the greatest gift for me is to know that you, my beloved child, are healthy, and leading a fulfilling and happy life.

I am grateful to God for seeing you through these past twenty over years of your life, and I pray that He continues to look after you.
