Phaw Phaw joined us in December 2019 as a Healthcare Assistant. Her main role is to keep our Home clean and assist in the daily needs of our Residents, including washing the laundry and serving meals.

Before coming to Singapore, Phaw Phaw, 27 years old, worked as a private nursing-aide to an elderly woman in Myanmar. She decided to come to Singapore for better income so she can support her extended family of 9 back in her hometown in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Myanmar.

Phaw Phaw finds working in St John’s Home pleasant, though busy and tired sometimes. She remembers arriving in Singapore afraid and unsure of how she can adapt to this new City. She is comforted that her co-workers help her settle-in in many ways including translating

English or Dialects to Burmese. For Singapore food, she likes especially the chicken and fish dishes. In the long-term, Phaw Phaw hopes to save enough to buy her own house in Myanmar eventually.

Our residents find Phaw Phaw an affable and diligent worker.  “She is hardworking and is often busy.”, Uncle Chong, a resident affirms with a smile and thumbs-up.

St John's Home for Elderly Persons is not a government-subvented Home and depend largely on the public's generosity to enable us to continue our work as a Registered Charity.
