Students from LaSalleOur Home had some unique guests just after the Chinese New Year break.  More than 25 young people “day camped” in our Home for four days.  They were the students from LaSalle’s Puttnam School of Film and Animation.  The team included the Producer, the Director, the Lighting Department, the Sound Department as well as the Camera team.

Shooting for a school project, a 15-minute movie titled “Ah Ma’s Great Escape”, our Home was chosen to be the location for the entire film.  St John’s Home for Elderly Persons’ location at 69 Wan Tho Avenue was ideal because the producer, Aloysius Ong and his team wanted a retro look for the location.  The team felt that such a location related to seniors and believed that it would be a place where most seniors feel what a home should be: building structures that remind them of atap houses and the kampong style living conditions.  Our buildings are pretty much as they were when our Home started in December 1958.

“Ah Ma’s Great EAloysius Ongscape” captures the younger side of elderly.  Aloysius found the script as “a fun script” and chose the theme around the elderly as he felt it would allow the audience to explore deeper into the relationship between the young and the old.

The film will be released in April 2019 but the public will only get to watch it in 2021 as between now and 2021, the school will send the film to competitions in various festivals around the world.  We wish the best for film!
